Dress Code Guide

Roppongi clubs enforce dress codes more strictly than anywhere else in Tokyo. Getting turned away at the door is common — here is exactly what to wear and what to avoid.

Accepted

  • Smart casual

Collared shirt + chinos or dark jeans

  • Blazer or jacket

Strongly recommended for men at most venues

  • Dress shoes / loafers

    Clean leather or suede

  • Cocktail dress

For women — any elegant style is fine

  • Heels or dressy flats

    Women have more flexibility here

Not allowed

  • Sneakers

Refused at most Roppongi venues, especially weekends

  • Shorts or cargo pants

Even in summer — always refused

  • Hoodies or sweats

    No sportswear of any kind

  • Sandals or open-toe shoes (men)

    Immediate refusal at door

  • Sportswear / athletic gear

    Jerseys, tracksuits, gym wear

How to Get There

By Train

Take the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line or Toei Oedo Line to Roppongi Station. Most clubs are within a 5–10 minute walk. Use Exit 3 (Hibiya Line) or Exit 7 (Oedo Line) as your starting point.

Getting Home

Last trains depart around 00:30. After that, take a taxi from the Roppongi Hills or Midtown taxi stands — expect ¥1,500–¥3,000 to central Tokyo. Ride-hailing apps (Uber, GO) are also available and often cheaper.

From Shibuya / Shinjuku

From Shibuya: 10 min by taxi (¥1,000–¥1,500) or 15 min via Hibiya Line with one change. From Shinjuku: 20 min by taxi (¥2,000–¥2,500) or Oedo Line direct (20 min).

Tips for Foreigners

01

Book a VIP table in advance

Walk-in entry can be difficult or expensive on weekends. Booking a table guarantees entry and usually includes bottle service — it often works out cheaper per person for groups of 4+.

02

Arrive before midnight

The best window is 11:00 PM – 12:30 AM. Arrive too early and the venue is dead; arrive after 1:00 AM and some clubs stop entry. Most clubs peak around 1:00–2:30 AM.

03

Bring your passport

Japanese clubs are required to verify age and often check ID. A passport is the most accepted form of ID for foreigners. A driving licence from overseas may not be accepted.

04

Cash is still king

Many clubs charge cover in cash at the door. ATMs inside convenience stores (7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Lawson) accept foreign cards 24/7. Withdraw before you go out.
